How to Turn off Auto-Renew for Godaddy Auctions

I just recently got an email from my Domain provider, Godaddy, letting me know that my “auctions” membership would be auto-renewing soon at a cost of $9.99 per year. I’m not sure how I got an auctions account to begin with – maybe from bidding on/buying an expiring domain? Anyway, the Godaddy Auctions account is not something I ever use, so I logged in to my Godaddy account and started looking for a way to disable the auto-renew option for this account.

15 minutes later, I still hadn’t found a way to do it. If anyone from Godaddy is reading this – simplify your user interface pretty please.

I did eventually find a way to do it, so I figured I would share it here for anyone else who might stumble upon this site looking for a way to do stop Godaddy Auctions from auto-renewing…

  1. Once logged in, go to My Account, and in the left sidebar click on the “Payments & Renewing Items” link under “MY RENEWALS & UPGRADES”.
  2. You should be presented with a list of all of the renewing items in your account, along with the date that they will renew on.  Select “Go Daddy Auctions – Membership w/DomainAlert. Pro Monitoring” and then click the  ”Cancel Item” button.
  3. In the right sidebar, you’ll be presented with the option to cancel it now, or cancel it at expiration. I chose to “Cancel at Expiration Date”.

I’m sure the difficulty to cancel is by design.

Phew. Thanks for putting this out there! It was driving me nuts looking for how to cancel that junk. All the other sidebar options were expanded except the one that has the sub listings for cancellation. Surprise, surprise GoDaddy.

  5. gp says:

Thanks, this was helpful, There is NO way anyone can cancel the subscription due to the option being hidden by default. *sigh* shame on nodaddy

Thank you so much for posting this. Godaddy has a terrible usability (by choice because it makes them money). I know this and I hate this. As soon as I have more money I’m transfering all my domains to a better service.

  7. Mike says:

Thanks Bro, I was going crazy trying to find this!

  8. Greg says:

Awesome! Thank you so much. Last year i paid auto-renewal since I couldn’t figure it out. This year I googled it and your solution worked perfectly. Thanks again! :)

    Thanks!

  10. Matt says:

Thanks! This was driving me crazy. I am sure they hide the cancel button on purpose.
